TimeTiger 1 Quick Installation Guide

Thank you for downloading TimeTiger. This guide will get you up and running in just a few minutes. If you have questions or run into any problems during your installation, e-mail us at support@indigo1.com.

First, which of the following would you like to do?

1. Set up TimeTiger for the first time for myself (single-user).
2. Set up TimeTiger for several users at my organization (multi-user).
3. Take my single-user TimeTiger database and allow several users at my organization to use it (multi-user).
4. Up-size my TimeTiger database from Microsoft Access 2000 format to Microsoft SQL Server.

1. Set up TimeTiger for the first time for myself (single-user)

• If you haven't already done so, download the TimeTiger application from www.timetiger.com.
• Run the setup.exe file.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to install TimeTiger on your computer.
• Once TimeTiger is installed, run it by going to Start, Programs, TimeTiger.
• You will see a "Welcome to TimeTiger!" screen. Click Setup a new TimeTiger database.
• You can now choose to use either a Microsoft Access database or a Microsoft SQL Server database. For single-user installations, choose Microsoft Access 2000. If you wish to use Microsoft SQL Server, see the next section for multi-user setup instructions. Once you have selected Microsoft Access 2000, click Next.
• Choose a location for the database file TimeTiger will create. The default location is fine, but if you will want to eventually share your database with other users at your organization, you may wish to choose a shared network folder for your database instead. Click Next once you have selected a location.
• Click Finish to create your database.
• You will now see the Setup Wizard. Follow through the Setup Wizard answering each question. Click Help if you would like more information about any of the Setup Wizard options. Click Finish to allow Setup Wizard to configure your database and prepare it for use.
• You will now be asked for an authorization key. If you wish to evaluate TimeTiger for 30 days, simply click OK to use the default key "TRIAL." If you have purchased TimeTiger and received an authorization key from Indigo, enter your key here and click OK.
• TimeTiger will now ask you to log in. Enter the login user name and password you entered in the Setup Wizard and click OK.

Congratulations, TimeTiger is now running on your computer! You can always tell that TimeTiger is running by looking for the little clock icon in your Windows system tray at the bottom-right of your desktop. Right-click on the clock at any time to bring up your TimeTiger QuickPick window. For more information on QuickPick and how to start using TimeTiger, hit the F1 key to bring up the online help. 2. Set up TimeTiger for several users at my organization (multi-user)

• Select one computer as the first machine you will install TimeTiger onto. This need not be the administrative station or the network server, simply any workstation that will eventually be using TimeTiger.
• If you haven't already done so, download the TimeTiger application from www.timetiger.com onto this computer.
• Run the setup.exe file.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to install TimeTiger on this workstation.
• Once TimeTiger is installed, run it by going to Start, Programs, TimeTiger.
• You will see a "Welcome to TimeTiger!" screen. Click Setup a new TimeTiger database.
• You can now choose to use either a Microsoft Access database or a Microsoft SQL Server database. You do not need to own Microsoft Access 2000 in order to use an Access database with TimeTiger, so we recommend Access for smaller organizations that do not own their own license for Microsoft SQL Server. For larger organizations or those with existing SQL Server installations, you can choose Microsoft SQL Server. Click Next.

If you picked Microsoft Access 2000

• Choose a location for the database file TimeTiger will create. In order to allow multi-user use, you should choose a shared network folder for your database, perhaps on a network file server. If you choose a network folder on this computer rather than on a file server, you will need to make sure that this computer is left on at all times so that other users can access the TimeTiger database. Also make sure that each network user who will be accessing the TimeTiger database has Full Permissions on both the TimeTiger database and the folder containing the database (see your network administrator for help with this).
• Click Next once you have selected a location.

If you picked Microsoft SQL Server

• Type the name of the SQL Server on your network that you wish to connect to and select the type of security that server uses. If the server uses SQL Standard Security, type the name and password of an administrative user for the server. If the server uses Windows Integrated security, you must be logged in to Windows as a SQL administrator user before proceeding to the next step. Click Next.
• Choose Create a new database and type the name of the database you wish to use (e.g. TimeTiger).
• Click Next.

• Click Finish to create your TimeTiger database. The Setup Wizard screen will appear.
• If you chose a Microsoft SQL Server database, this is a good time to set up SQL security. You do not have to do this now, but you will need to do it before other users can log into TimeTiger, so this is as good a time as any. Leave the TimeTiger Setup Wizard on the screen and follow the instructions below in the section Appendix: Setting TimeTiger SQL Security. After completing the SQL security setup, you will be returned to the TimeTiger Setup Wizard.
• Follow through the Setup Wizard answering each question. Click Help if you would like more information about any of the Setup Wizard options.
• Click Finish to allow Setup Wizard to configure your database and prepare it for use.
• You will now be asked for an authorization key. If you wish to evaluate TimeTiger for 30 days, simply click OK to use the default key "TRIAL." If you have purchased TimeTiger and received an authorization key from Indigo, enter your key here and click OK.
• TimeTiger will now ask you to log in. Enter the login user name and password you entered in the Setup Wizard and click OK. TimeTiger is now running on this workstation.
• Open the TimeTiger Explorer when prompted, or by clicking on the button with the yellow folder and blue magnifying glass in the TimeTiger QuickPick toolbar.
• Double-click on User Groups at the top left of the screen and click the + button beside Main to expand the Main group.
• From the File menu, choose New User for Main.
• Enter the Windows login name of one of your desired TimeTiger users. Set the password if you wish by clicking the Change Password button (by default, the password is blank). Click OK to add the user.
• Repeat for each of your desired TimeTiger users. Be sure to use the Windows login name of each user. You have now created TimeTiger accounts for all of your users.
• Go to each of the other workstation where you wish to install TimeTiger. Run the same setup.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the TimeTiger software. Run TimeTiger and, when you see the "Welcome to TimeTiger" screen, click Locate TimeTiger database.
• Click on the type of database you created (Microsoft Access 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server), and click Next. Enter the network file location (for Microsoft Access 2000) or SQL Server information (for Microsoft SQL Server) where your TimeTiger database is stored and click Next.
• Click Finish to connect this workstation to your TimeTiger network database. Repeat for each workstation you wish to connect to TimeTiger.
• Congratulations, you have now installed TimeTiger and connected all of your network users to the TimeTiger database!

3. Take my single-user TimeTiger database and allow several users at my organization to use it (multi-user).

• First, run TimeTiger and log in as a user with TimeTiger administrative rights.
• Find out where the TimeTiger database is located by opening the TimeTiger Explorer, then choosing Help, About TimeTiger. At the middle of the window on the left side you will see the path to the Access database. Verify that you have enough user licenses by confirming that the Maximum Users is sufficient for the network users you wish to add. If you require additional user licenses, you can order them online at www.timetiger.com. Click OK to exit the About window.
• Double-click on User Groups at the top-left of the screen and click the + button beside Main to expand the Main group.
• From the File menu, choose New User for Main.
• Enter the Windows login name of one of your desired TimeTiger users. Set the password if you wish by clicking the Change Password button (by default, the password is blank). Click OK to add the user.
• Repeat for each of your desired TimeTiger users. Be sure to use the Windows login name of each user.
• You have now created TimeTiger accounts for all of your users.

The remainder of these instructions assume you wish to continue using the Microsoft Access 2000 database you have been using thus far. If you would like to up-size your database to Microsoft SQL Server format, see the section below entitled 4. Up-size my TimeTiger database from Microsoft Access 2000 format to Microsoft SQL Server.

• Exit TimeTiger and use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder containing your TimeTiger database.
• Make a backup copy of this database.
• Now, move this database to a shared network directory on your file server. Be sure that each user who will be accessing the TimeTiger database has Full Permissions on both the TimeTiger database and the folder containing the database (see your network administrator for help with this).
• Run TimeTiger. You will be told that TimeTiger cannot find your database (because you moved it, of course). Click Locate TimeTiger database.
• Enter the new path to your TimeTiger database. TimeTiger is now connected to the database at the new location.
• Download TimeTiger from www.timetiger.com and install it on all your network workstations by running the setup.exe file on each of the computers.
• Run TimeTiger on each workstation and click Locate TimeTiger database, entering the path to your network database.
• Congratulations, each TimeTiger workstation is now connected to the network TimeTiger database!

4. Up-size my TimeTiger database from Microsoft Access 2000 format to Microsoft SQL Server.

Note: TimeTiger supports Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and later.

• Have all users exit TimeTiger.
• Run TimeTiger and log in as a user with TimeTiger administrative rights.
• Find out where the TimeTiger database is located by opening the TimeTiger Explorer, then choosing Help, About TimeTiger. At the middle of the window on the left side you will see the database path to the Access database.
• In the TimeTiger Explorer, choose Tools, Options, Advanced, and click on Use a different TimeTiger Database. Make a note of the authorization key and click OK until TimeTiger exits.
• Use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder containing your TimeTiger database file.
• Make a backup copy of this database.
• Run TimeTiger. Rather than a standard TimeTiger login screen, you will presented with several options. Choose Convert or upgrade a TimeTiger database.
• Choose Microsoft SQL Server and click Next.
• Type the name of the SQL Server on your network that you wish to connect to and select the type of security that server uses. If the server uses SQL Standard Security, type the name and password of an SQL administrative user for the server. If the server uses Windows Integrated security, you must be logged in to Windows as a SQL administrative user before proceeding to the next step. Click Next.
• Choose Create a new database and type the name of the database you wish to use (e.g. TimeTiger). Click Next.
• Now, choose the network file location of your existing Microsoft Access database. Click Next.
• Click Finish to create your new SQL Server database and convert your existing TimeTiger data.
• This is a good time to set up SQL security. You do not have to do this now, but you will need to do it before other users can log into TimeTiger, so this is as good a time as any. Follow the instructions below in the section Appendix: Setting TimeTiger SQL Security. After completing the SQL security setup, you will be returned to the TimeTiger login screen.
• Confirm that the database converted successfully by logging into TimeTiger.
• Exit TimeTiger.
• Use Windows Explorer to remove the original Access database file (be sure you have a backup first).
• Go to each workstation where TimeTiger is installed. Run TimeTiger.
• You will be told that TimeTiger cannot connect to the system database (as we just removed it, of course). Click on Locate TimeTiger database.
• Choose Microsoft SQL Server and click Next. Specify the name and connection information of the SQL database server and click Next.
• Under Use an existing database, choose the SQL database you just created and click Next.
• Click Finish to connect this workstation. Repeat for the remaining workstations where TimeTiger is installed.
• Congratulations, each TimeTiger workstation is now connected to the new TimeTiger SQL database!

Note: if you are using TimeTiger/Web, you will also need to change the ODBC DSN entry for TimeTiger/Web to point to the new SQL database. Refer to the TimeTiger/Web instructions for information on creating and making changes to this DSN entry.

Appendix: Setting TimeTiger SQL Security

• Open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
• Connect to the SQL Server where you have created the TimeTiger database.
• Go to the Logins section of the Security folder.
• Create a Login for users to use when accessing TimeTiger. You can use a single, shared Login if you are using SQL Standard Security, but you must create a separate Login for each of your TimeTiger users if you are using Windows Integrated Security.
• For each Login that you create, Permit access to the TimeTiger database and set the Default Database to TimeTiger.
• Go to the Roles section of the TimeTiger database.
• Create a role called TimeTigerUser of type Standard Role.
• Go to the Users section of the TimeTiger database.
• Create a database user for each Login that you created. The user name should be the same as the Login name, and the user should be in the TimeTigerUser role.
• Open the SQL Query Analyzer (from the Tools menu) and set the database to the TimeTiger database.
• Execute the following query to grant the necessary permissions.

• Close the SQL Query Analyzer and SQL Enterprise Manager.
• Congratulations, you have now finished setting up SQL Server security for use with TimeTiger!
